Dr. Muhammad Farooq, Head of Energy, Environment and Sustainability Research at Mechanical Engineering Department – New Campus (KSK) won the ‘’Best paper Award in ‘’ in ‘’ The Paper Writing Contest’’ in Mechanical Engineering across the country. The contest was organized by The Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) on 1st April 2021 at IEP building in Lahore. IEP received the contribution of the papers from all provinces of Pakistan. Dr. Farooq presented his paper titled ‘’ Clean & Green Pakistan: CO2 Capture for Sustainable Environment ‘’. During his presentation, he explained different ways of converting waste into global economy. He emphasized that with the increasing population and energy demand of the world, the Waste to Energy is of utmost importance to be used as renewable energy resource, which will not only help in solving waste problems, but also minimizing the environmental pollution. He mentioned that waste to energy technologies are very much aligned with the Sustainable Development goals (SDGs) of United Nation for generating renewable, affordable, and clean power and valuable products from waste. Engr. Masood Ali Khan, Chairman IEP Lahore appreciated the efforts of Dr. Farooq to improve the research and development culture in Pakistan. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor of UET Lahore, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar for encouraging the researchers to participate in the Paper Writing Contest.
